Series background & context
Half-Moon Hollow is Molly Harper's big paranormal neighborhood. The town sits in Kentucky, and once vampires come out into the open, the place becomes a magnet for all sorts of supernatural spillover: werewolves, witches, ghosts, council functionaries, and humans who are just trying to get through the week without being bitten.
The world starts with Jane Jameson in Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs, but the later books widen the camera. Instead of sticking with one couple forever, Harper uses the town like an ensemble comedy. A vampire concierge, a road-weary driver, a witch on a family quest, a single mother adjusting to undeath, a college-going vampire princess, and more all get their turn.
That bigger cast is the fun of it. Half-Moon Hollow feels lived in. Jane's occult bookshop keeps people circulating in and out. The local vampire council creates rules, paperwork, and grudges. Old family connections matter. So do friendships, exes, nosy relatives, and the strange Kentucky habit of everybody knowing everybody else's business.
These books balance romance with a light mystery thread. Someone is usually hiding something, breaking the rules, running a scam, or poking at magic they should have left alone. But the tone stays funny even when the stakes jump. Harper likes supernatural problems, but she likes neighborly chaos just as much.
If you want dark, brooding vampire fiction, this is probably not it. If you want smart-mouthed heroines, fussy immortal men, found family, and a town where the undead still have to deal with gossip and bad paperwork, this series is a very good time.
It helps to start with the Jane Jameson books, then move into the spin-offs in order. The later novels reward you for knowing who everyone is, because Half-Moon Hollow never stops feeling like one busy, connected community.
