Series background & context

The Sons of Ymre series is paranormal romance built around an ancient conflict. Long ago, a mad god nearly destroyed the world. The Sons are part of the force still holding back that threat, hunting the monsters and corrupt powers connected to him. Their work is secret, violent, and organized through old bonds that make duty feel closer to religion than employment.

Love arrives in the middle of a war.

Erik introduces Liv Stellack, who is taken by the Sons because her abilities make her valuable in their fight. She has every reason to distrust a group of powerful men who speak in half-explanations and treat danger as routine. Erik is one of her captors and protectors, a hunter shaped by the temple's demands. As the Mad God's influence grows, Liv becomes more than a tool, and the possibility of a traitor inside the Sons makes safety difficult to judge.

The series' central tension comes from that clash between institutional duty and personal choice. The Sons are trained to recognize monsters and obey the needs of their order. The women drawn into their world have powers, histories, and limits of their own. Attraction cannot settle whether the temple is right, whether a prophecy can be trusted, or whether protection has crossed into control.

Nigel returns to the same war through another pairing. Cass Tierney is a leader among monster hunters, used to responsibility and hard decisions. Nigel carries the title and burden of being Father of the Sons. When he identifies Cass as a rare lirai, their connection becomes strategically important as well as personal. The Mad God remains a waiting threat, and every private choice has consequences for the larger defense.

The tone is dark, urgent, and romantic. Expect hidden compounds, ritual knowledge, supernatural creatures, internal suspicion, and people who have made combat their normal life. The men may be powerful, but the books do not treat the heroines as spectators. Liv and Cass have to decide what they believe, what they will fight for, and how much of the Sons' world they are willing to accept.

Begin with Erik for the clearest introduction to the order and its enemy, then continue to Nigel among the books listed here. The stories focus on different couples while sharing the same mythology and ongoing danger. Readers who like paranormal romance with monster hunting, secret orders, and trust earned under pressure will find the series' main shape quickly.
