Dead God's Heart is a two-book contemporary fantasy about Natasha Drozdova, usually called Nat, and a journey across America that turns family grief into a struggle among old gods. Nat begins with a practical desperation. Her mother is dying of cancer, money is tight, and any promise of a cure is almost impossible to refuse. The offer she receives comes with a task and a danger she does not understand.

In Spring's Arcana, Nat travels to Manhattan and is drawn into a bargain involving a stolen object of divine importance. Her path crosses a winter goddess, a razor-wielding assassin, and powers that have survived by changing names and hiding inside the modern world. To save her mother, Nat must go on the road and retrieve what was taken before rival forces claim it.

The journey moves through recognizable American places, but each stop can contain myth. Motels, highways, cities, and lonely stretches of land become meeting points for gods, monsters, and people bound to them. Nat is not a trained warrior. She has to learn through observation, stubbornness, and a growing awareness that her own family history is part of the puzzle.

The Salt-Black Tree continues the search for the Dead God's Heart. Nat needs it as the price of her mother's survival, yet recovering it means facing the truth about her birth and the beings hunting her. Mouthless shadows, a god of thieves, and competing claims push her toward a choice no bargain has prepared her to make. Saving one person may carry a cost for many others.

The duology's tone is mythic but grounded. Its gods are dangerous, selfish, wounded, and sometimes unexpectedly human. The road-trip structure gives the story movement, while Nat's bond with her mother keeps the stakes close. She is not chasing power for its own sake. She is trying to keep someone she loves alive, even as the definition of family becomes more complicated.
