Sixth Sense Mysteries Books in Order

The Sixth Sense Mysteries spin out of Angela M Sanders's paranormal mystery world, but they have a mood all their own. These books move to Astoria, Oregon, and settle into Corrie House, a worn Victorian mansion turned rooming house where unusual women, old history, and the possibility of murder seem to gather under one roof.

The main character is Lise Bloom, whose gift is not with books or visions but scent. She experiences clairalience, which means that fragrance unfurls around people in ways that reveal emotion, motive, or danger. It is a neat, unusual premise, and Sanders gets a lot out of it. Lise's talent is intimate and slightly unsettling. She does not simply notice perfume. She notices what clings to people, what they are trying to hide, and when something in the air feels wrong.

A Whiff of Murder introduces that ability in a case tied to a New Age shop and a dead employer, but the series is about more than one investigation at a time. Lise is also trying to understand where her gift comes from, how much of it she wants to claim, and what it means to live among people whose lives are a little stranger than average. Corrie House matters a lot here. It is not just a backdrop. The mansion feels alive with memory, tension, and secrets, and the household around Lise gives the series its ongoing emotional center.

There is a nice gothic thread running through these books, but it stays cozy. Ghosts, house lore, odd inheritances, and eerie discoveries all have room to show up, especially in Slay it by Ear, where a ghost-hunting crew stirs the place into fresh trouble. At the same time, the mysteries remain grounded in relationships, jealousy, money, and the ordinary selfishness that powers most good crime fiction. Sanders lets the supernatural enrich the setting without letting it do all the work.

This series is still young.

That makes it an easy one to jump into from the start. Read A Whiff of Murder first, then Slay it by Ear. The books are tied together by Corrie House, Lise's gift, and the larger question of what kind of life she is building for herself there. If you like paranormal mysteries with a cozy pulse, a slightly gothic house, and a heroine whose nose is sharper than anyone else's detective instincts, this series has a very promising setup.
