Simon Peake Books in Order

Simon Peake is one of Rob Sinclair's roughest leads, and that is saying something. He is an ex-Special Forces soldier whose life is already close to the floor when Dead Reckoning begins. He wants work, some peace, and a chance to stop feeling like every bad thing in his past is still waiting for him. Instead he ends up in the orbit of New York Irish mobster Harry Lafferty, doing ugly jobs for ugly people and making his life even harder.

Peake does not do clean exits.

That is the tone of the whole series. These books are action thrillers, but they lean harder into crime, desperation, and morally gray choices than Sinclair's spy fiction usually does. Peake is not a government asset with institutional backup. He is more of a damaged drifter with specialist skills, a man who can handle violence and read danger, but who never quite gets to stand outside the mess. In Dead Reckoning, old sins catch up with him just as new loyalties begin to matter.

Deadly Mistake makes that even clearer. Living quietly in small-town Georgia does not save him for long. A late-night knock on the door, a woman in a car trunk who turns out to be very much alive, and suddenly Peake is back in a world of cartels, mob bosses, and rogue CIA operators. The books move fast, but the through line is simple. Peake keeps getting pulled into other people's schemes because he cannot quite stop himself from choosing the dangerous version of help.

Then Death Hollow changes the shape of the danger.

Instead of city crime networks and international players, that book strands him in Red Hollow, an old gold-mining town that runs on silence, fear, and secrets. A missing girl pulls him into local corruption, abandoned mine tunnels, and the sort of closed community that protects its own until somebody forces it open. It is a good example of what the series does well. The setting may change, but the pressure stays intimate. Peake is always close to the threat, never comfortably above it.

That is why the books work. Simon Peake is blunt, bruised, and not especially interested in being liked, but he is hard to look away from. He protects people when he can, hits back hard when he must, and keeps carrying the weight of what came before. If you like thrillers with a scarred lead, sharp movement, and more grit than polish, this series is likely to be the Rob Sinclair shelf you head to first.
