Sherlock Holmes: Gentleman Aegis Books in Order

Sherlock Holmes: Gentleman Aegis takes Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson back to the beginning of their friendship. This version is connected in spirit to Stephanie Osborn's other Holmes work, but it follows a younger Holmes, before the events that displace him into another reality in the Displaced Detective books.

The opening novel, Sherlock Holmes and the Mummy's Curse, finds Holmes and Watson still finding their way. Watson's Afghan injuries have not fully healed, Holmes is working to establish himself as a consulting detective, and neither man has yet become the settled figure readers expect from later adventures.

An old archaeology professor asks Holmes for help with an urgent Egyptian expedition. Holmes is needed for his ability to translate hieroglyphics, and Watson is asked to serve as the dig team's physician. What begins as an academic and practical request sends the pair into a desert setting full of pressure, uncertainty, and something much stranger than the team expected to find.

They are young, but the dangers are real.

The series uses the familiar Holmes-and-Watson partnership as its anchor. Holmes brings observation, logic, and a growing confidence in his new profession. Watson brings medical knowledge, steadiness, and the perspective of a friend who can challenge Holmes when necessary. Their relationship is still in motion, which gives the story room for misunderstandings, financial worries, and the rough edges of early adulthood.

The setting matters, too. Egypt is not simply a decorative location for an old curse. The archaeological dig requires translation, medicine, travel, and working around the harsh realities of heat, dust, and isolation. The mystery grows out of that environment.

Expect an adventure mystery with historical trappings, a touch of speculative strangeness, and a younger take on two well-known characters. Start with Sherlock Holmes and the Mummy's Curse, the first Gentleman Aegis story and the natural entry point to this branch of Osborn's Holmes fiction.
