Phantom Chamber

by Andrew Rowe

2023

After tragedy in Tortoise Spire, survivors Nieve and Hane join a new party to climb Tiger Spire, hunting the fabled Vault of Shadows on a perilous train mission where shifting loyalties, a notorious thief, and a life-granting creature complicate every choice.

Crystal Awakening

by Andrew Rowe

2022

Team Guiding Star Legacy, a squad of climbers, recruits two new specialists to tackle Tortoise Spire’s higher floors, where fire, ice, and illusions hide a sinister agenda that may shatter their bonds as surely as the crystal prize they seek.

Series background & context

Shattered Legacy is set in the Arcane Ascension universe but looks at it from a different angle: not as students learning magic, but as seasoned delvers trying to stay alive on the higher floors of the Soaring Spires.

The main focus is Team Guiding Star Legacy, a squad of professional climbers with complementary attunements and years of shared experience. Nieve handles the front line, Sage plans their routes, Lani keeps them standing, and Emiko brings raw spellcasting power to the group.

In Crystal Awakening they head into the Tortoise Spire of Dalenos short‑handed and under pressure, forced to recruit new members in order to chase deeper treasures. The book leans hard into the nuts and bolts of tower delving: room‑by‑room tactics, puzzle mechanics, resource management, and the growing sense that the spire itself might be judging them.

The sequel, Phantom Chamber, follows the survivors as they grapple with grief and try to reshape themselves into a new team. Joining a different party to tackle Tiger Spire sounds like a fresh start, but hidden agendas, dangerous cargo on a magically powered train, and the hunt for the Vault of Shadows make every decision heavier.

This is a series about what happens when high‑level dungeon crawlers are pushed past their limits and still choose to go back in.

Readers can expect the same crunchy magic and intricate tower design found in Arcane Ascension, but with more time spent in the spires themselves and less in classrooms. The focus is on teamwork, field improvisation, and how different attunements combine under stress, all while the characters wrestle with fear, ambition, and the cost of chasing a wish from a goddess.

You don’t need to have every detail of the main series memorized to follow Shattered Legacy, but it does reward familiarity with the world. It’s a good choice if you want more tower runs, more mid‑to‑high‑level combat, and an ensemble cast of climbers trying to turn shared trauma into a reason to keep moving upward.
