Author bio

Sharina Harris has been making up stories for a long time. She says she wrote her first book at twelve, and she had been writing poetry, short stories, and school-paper pieces even earlier. Singing was part of the picture too, though she jokes that the writing held up better outside the shower.

Writing was always the plan, even when life took her somewhere else first.

At Georgia State University, Harris earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and chose public relations as a practical way to keep writing while building a career. After college, she worked in marketing and public relations, jobs that used her skills but did not quite give her the creative work she wanted. She was good at the work, but it wasn't the whole story.

A layoff in 2012 became the push she needed. Harris has described coming home ready to feel sorry for herself, then realizing she had a choice: stay stuck or get up and write. She chose the second option. She joined writing groups, kept working on her craft, and found ways to make writing fit around the rest of her life.

That choice shows up in the kinds of people she writes about. Her contemporary fiction often follows women taking stock of the lives they thought they would have, then deciding what they want next. Friendship, family pressure, love, work, ambition, and the hard business of trusting yourself all have room on the page.

Her 2020 novel (Im)perfectly Happy brings together four former college friends who revive the support group that once helped them dream big. Each woman is wrestling with a different version of disappointment, from a career that no longer fits to a dream put aside for family. Judge's Girls shifts to a Georgia lake house, where a lawyer, her stepmother, and her teenage stepsister have to live together to claim an inheritance after the death of the family patriarch.

Then Harris took a sharp turn into young adult paranormal fiction.

The American Slayer Society books begin with Spirit of the Slayer, following a teenager drawn into vampire hunting and the secrets behind the world she thought she knew. In Soul of the Stone, the danger expands as a young slayer faces family secrets, a growing supernatural threat, and feelings that complicate every decision. The series keeps the banter and emotional questions of her earlier work, but adds training, monsters, weapons, and high-stakes action.

Harris also writes contemporary romance as Rina Gray. Across both names, she moves between everyday relationships and bigger-than-life danger while keeping her focus on characters trying to make honest choices. Her books tend to ask a simple question with no simple answer: what do you do when the future you planned no longer feels like yours?

She lives in Atlanta with her husband and son. When she isn't writing, Harris enjoys reading, kickboxing, following NBA teams, and spending time with friends and family. There is also room for K-dramas, anime, and a competitive game night.
