Shadow Hounds: Rogue Waters Books in Order

Shadow Hounds: Rogue Waters looks like one of the darkest corners of Kris Norris's current suspense work. McGuire's Target introduces an off-the-books unit run by a former Navy SEAL in the Louisiana bayou, and the setup immediately feels rougher, murkier, and more morally gray than some of her other team series.

That change in atmosphere is the whole point. The bayou setting is humid, isolated, and dangerous in a way that suits covert operations and hidden enemies. The Shadow Hounds are not polished heroes in a bright office. They are the kind of people who work in the margins, where names are protected, loyalties are tested, and every decision has a sharper edge.

Even with that darker tone, the series still does what Norris does best. The romance grows out of competence, pressure, and the sudden realization that the person beside you might be the one variable you cannot control. In McGuire's Target, that means a leader with strict rules colliding with a woman who is clearly far more dangerous than she first appears.

If you like romantic suspense that skews gritty, secretive, and a little harder around the edges, Rogue Waters is a promising line to watch.
