Series background & context

Secrets of the Night moves into darker, more openly suspenseful territory. These books are built around scams, lies, morally gray men, and women who get pulled into worlds they do not fully understand until it is too late. Dark Obsession sets the tone right away, attraction tangled up with crime and secrets that can ruin lives.

What makes the series work is that the suspense is not separate from the romance. The chemistry depends on dangerous information, half-truths, and the question of whether either person can be trusted. That gives the books a tense, late-night feel that fits the title well.

If you like romantic suspense with antihero energy and a strong undercurrent of deception, this is worth a try. It is darker than Parker's lighter contemporary work, but it keeps the same fast pace and strong trope awareness.
