Series background & context

The Savannah Time Travel Mysteries take a modern Southern heroine and drop her into the haunted glamour of the 1920s. Georgia Belle starts out as a police dispatcher from the present day, then gets thrown back into Roaring Twenties Savannah, where she has to solve crimes without modern tools and figure out what it means to build a life in a time that is not hers.

Savannah is the perfect setting for that idea. The city already carries layers of beauty, decay, history, and ghost story energy, and Lewis uses all of it. These books move through mansions, streets, warehouses, parties, and corners of the city where the past never feels far away. The period detail matters, but the real fun comes from watching Georgia try to navigate a social world with rules she does not fully accept.

Her partnership and romance with detective Sam Bohannon give the series a strong emotional line. So do the family complications that come with time travel. These are not stories where the past is safely sealed off from the present. Georgia's choices can ripple forward, affecting marriages, births, and entire branches of the future. That gives the mysteries an added layer of pressure that sets them apart from straightforward historical whodunits.

The city is haunted, but the stakes are very real.

Tone matters here too. The books are part historical mystery, part romance, and part time-slip adventure, with an affectionate nod toward older mystery traditions. Georgia has to use observation, persistence, and social savvy more than science or databases. That old-fashioned approach fits the setting beautifully.

If you like a murder mystery with flapper era atmosphere, family consequences, and a heroine who cannot help pushing against the limits of her era, this series is a strong pick. It is lively, emotional, and full of the uneasy magic that comes from knowing the past is never really past.
