Sasha Lord is the pen name of veterinarian Rebecca A. Saria. Born in Danbury, Connecticut, she spent parts of her childhood and adolescence in Colorado, Alaska, Montana, and California, where animals and wide-open country were never far from daily life.

Her route to writing was anything but straight. After leaving high school, she traveled widely and took on a string of practical, physical jobs, including competitive horse show jumping, sheep ranching, commercial fishing, dancing, and training horses and dogs. She also worked with sled dogs, an experience that fits neatly with the animal-rich worlds she later created on the page.

Animals have been a constant in her life.

Writing was there early, too. Lord wrote continuously as a child and attended literary conferences at a teacher's invitation, but she chose science for her formal education. She graduated with honors from Mills College, studying biochemistry and molecular biology while also focusing on philosophy, then completed her veterinary training at Cornell's College of Veterinary Medicine.

That combination of science, animal care, and storytelling shaped her second career. Under the Sasha Lord name, she wrote the six-book Wild series, beginning with Under a Wild Sky in 2004 and concluding with Wild Angel in 2008. The books blend medieval romance, danger, family conflict, and lightly fantastical elements, often giving animals an important place in the action.

In Under a Wild Sky, forest princess Kalial can speak with wild animals while protecting her forbidden home. In a Wild Wood follows her daughter, Matalia, and the exiled warrior Brogan O'Bannon. Later books move to an island of wild horses in Across a Wild Sea, the dangerous waters of Beyond the Wild Wind, and a Scottish court shadowed by prophecy in In My Wild Dream.
