Author bio
Sarah E. Ladd writes historical romances set in Regency England, where manor houses, moorland villages, and stormy coastlines become the backdrop for stories of hope, courage, and quiet faith.
She grew up loving art, music, and long, character driven novels, and she was especially drawn to the manners, clothes, and social rules of the early nineteenth century. When she discovered Regency fiction, it felt like finding the setting she had been imagining all along.
A college trip to England and Scotland turned that interest into something deeper, as she walked real cobbled streets and windswept hills and began to picture her own characters moving through those landscapes.
Back home, she studied public relations and marketing at Ball State University, eventually earning degrees that led to more than a decade of work in marketing and brand management. Those years gave her a front row seat to how stories reach readers, including time spent promoting nonfiction books, and they taught her how to think about audience, message, and long term connection.
Around 2010 she began to treat writing as more than a side interest, setting aside regular time to work on her first novel. The result was The Heiress of Winterwood, a Regency romance that received the Genesis Award for historical romance in 2011 and opened the door to her first publishing contract.
Since that debut, she has written several connected series, including the Whispers on the Moors books, the Treasures of Surrey novels, the Cornwall stories, and more recent titles set among the Houses of Yorkshire. Readers move with her characters from schoolrooms and small villages to London shops, Cornish cliffs, and Yorkshire estates, watching ordinary men and women navigate secrets, scandal, and the strict expectations of their time.
Across those books, the thread that ties everything together is her interest in the quiet turning points when people choose honesty, forgiveness, and trust instead of fear.
Her stories often pair gently paced romance with a dash of mystery or danger, whether that means a missing jewel, a suspicious shipwreck, or a long buried family feud. She writes about governesses, gamekeepers, mill owners, and schoolteachers as often as titled nobles, giving a glimpse of working lives that usually stay in the background of period fiction. Faith is present but never heavy handed, showing up in the way characters wrestle with pride, grief, and the hope of starting over.
Today she lives in Indiana with her family and a much loved golden retriever. Outside of writing she values quiet time with them and enjoys connecting with readers who share her affection for the Regency world, whether that is through book clubs, events, or conversations about small historical details.
