Author bio
Sandra Owens was born in Lakeland, Florida, and grew up first in Pensacola before her family moved to Miami when she was in sixth grade. She was the oldest of five children, which meant, by her own account, a few more rules than the younger kids had to deal with.
That Florida background still feels like part of her books. Even when she writes about danger, wounded heroes, or hard choices, there is usually a strong sense of place and a real feel for how people live, work, and carry old history with them.
Before writing became her full-time job, Owens had a run of memorable ones. She has talked about managing a private airport in Indianapolis and later serving as general manager of a Harley-Davidson dealership. She also spent years riding a Harley herself, skydiving, and chasing the sort of thrills that sound like scenes from one of her own books.
That adventurous streak shows up on the page.
Owens writes in two main lanes, contemporary romantic suspense and Regency romance. Her historical side includes books like The Letter, The Training of a Marquess, and The Duke's Obsession. Those stories lean into second chances, old betrayals, stubborn hearts, and heroines who are anything but fragile. The Letter won the 2014 Golden Quill, and The Training of a Marquess won the 2012 Golden Claddagh, which gives you a good sense of how quickly readers responded to her historical work.
Then she shifted gears.
Her contemporary suspense novels brought in former SEALs, undercover agents, K-9 partners, and women who are usually in more trouble than they expected when the story opens. Crazy for Her, the first of her K2 books, was a 2013 Golden Heart finalist and helped introduce many readers to the mix she does so well: danger outside, emotional damage inside, and a love story that has to earn its ending. Books like Someone Like Her, Jack of Hearts, and Operation K-9 Brothers keep that same balance while moving through military teams, FBI operations, and protective heroes who are often one bad memory away from shutting down completely.
She also has a softer small-town side. In the Blue Ridge Valley books, including Just Jenny and All Autumn, she trades tactical missions for mountain-town friendships, first loves, family messes, and neighbors who absolutely will involve themselves in your business. Even there, though, Owens is still interested in people healing from loss, learning to trust, and finding a future they did not plan for.
Her newer books keep returning to the things she seems to care about most: loyalty, second chances, capable women, and men who have to learn that protecting someone is not the same thing as letting them in. Dogs turn up a lot, too, and not just as decoration.
These days Owens lives in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and writes full time. Most days, she says, her fingers are on the keyboard and her mind is in an imagined world. Given the mix of Regency ballrooms, biker bars, mountain towns, and rescue missions in her catalog, that seems to be working out just fine.
