Samaria is a world of winged angels, mortal settlements, music, and faith. Archangel begins with Gabriel, the next Archangel, and Rachel, the mortal woman chosen to be his life-mate. Their match is not easy. Rachel distrusts angels and is deeply aware of the hardships faced by ordinary people, while Gabriel has been shaped by duty and expectation. Their uneasy partnership sits at the center of a story about responsibility, power, and the need to listen.

The following books move through Samaria’s history. Jovah’s Angel follows the new Archangel Alleluia as weather problems and political unrest raise questions about whether the old system is still working. The Alleluia Files turns toward a search for hidden records that could change what Samaria believes about itself. The series gradually opens the gap between religious tradition and the older knowledge that has been kept from most people.

Angelica travels back to an earlier era, when the angelic order was still taking shape. Angel-Seeker returns to the period after Archangel and follows a young woman drawn into the world of angels, with all the longing, social pressure, and danger that can bring.

The books share a setting but often introduce new leads and new generations. That structure lets Shinn explore the same world from several angles: the angels’ responsibilities, the needs of farmers and city dwellers, the position of women seeking security, and the political cost of unequal power.

Expect romantic science fantasy with songs, storms, complicated belief, and people who must decide whether to preserve a tradition or challenge it. Publication order is the smoothest way to start, beginning with Archangel, even though some later books take place earlier in Samaria’s timeline.
