Series background & context

In the twenty-third century, humanity seems to have entered a golden age. Thanks to advanced quantum portal technology, the need for conventional spaceships to travel between settled worlds has largely vanished. Corporations and tourists alike can simply step through a doorway on Earth and arrive instantly on a colony planet light-years away. It is a time of rapid expansion, relative stability, and seemingly boundless opportunity.

Into this optimistic era come the Olyix. They are an ancient, nomadic species traveling the galaxy in a colossal vessel known as the Salvation of Life. To the unsuspecting people of Earth, the Olyix appear as benevolent mentors. They share incredible gifts, including the secrets to advanced energy and medical rejuvenation, asking for almost nothing in return. They claim to be on a religious pilgrimage to the end of the universe and even offer to take a portion of humanity with them to witness this final ascension.

But this generosity is a lie.

The Olyix are not misunderstood tourists; they are religious zealots with a terrifying singular purpose. Their goal is not to befriend lesser species, but to harvest them. They intend to capture every living human, cocoon them in stasis, and transport them as a psychic fuel source to their god at the end of time. By the moment humanity realizes the trap has been sprung, the enemy is already deeply embedded in Earth’s infrastructure and defenses.

The story splits its focus to show just how devastating this betrayal becomes. While the narrative begins in the polished, high-tech society of 2204, it frequently jumps forward to a grim distant future. In this later timeline, the remnants of the human race are scattered and hunted. They live on the run, fighting a losing guerrilla war against an enemy that regards their very existence as a sacrificial offering.

Bridging this massive chronological gap is a small group of operatives known as the "saints." These aren't religious figures, but genetically and technologically enhanced individuals tasked with an impossible mission. They must play a game of cat and mouse across thousands of years, initiating plans in the past that will hopefully pay off centuries later.

The trilogy—consisting of Salvation, Salvation Lost, and The Saints of Salvation—combines the intricate plotting of a corporate spy thriller with the sheer scale of interstellar warfare. It moves from detective investigations and boardroom politics to massive space battles involving fleets of diverse arkships. It serves as a stark reminder that sometimes the most dangerous threat isn't the one invading with weapons, but the one arriving with open arms.
