Author bio
Sally Britton writes historical romance with a clear love for the past, especially the manners, pressures, and small emotional dramas of the Regency period. Her path to writing started early, with her mother’s electric typewriter and a teenager who loved the sound of the keys as much as the stories she was trying to tell.
She started writing at fourteen.
Long before publication, she was already drawn to books where feeling mattered, where people had to choose courage over comfort, and where a happily ever after felt earned. She has named Jane Austen, Louisa May Alcott, and Lucy Maud Montgomery among the writers who shaped her tastes, and that mix makes sense when you read her work. There is wit, gentleness, domestic detail, and a steady belief that love is strongest when it is backed by kindness.
She later earned a BA in English from Brigham Young University. For years she wrote, read widely, and kept building toward publication. The first novel she wrote with publication in mind came together in 2016, and in 2018 she made her debut with The Social Tutor.
That first book opened the door to a fast-growing body of work. Readers who pick up Rescuing Lord Inglewood often find a classic Sally Britton setup, a guarded hero, a heroine looking for a true place to belong, and a romance built as much on trust as attraction. His Bluestocking Bride leans into marriage of convenience and quiet longing. Mr. Gardiner and the Governess shows her lighter side, with a castle setting, a spirited governess, and a hero more comfortable with plants and insects than people. Then a book like Silver Dollar Duke proves she is just as happy to carry those emotional beats into the Arizona Territory.
Kindness matters in her books.
So does the feeling that ordinary choices can change a life. Her stories often center on people who are overlooked, underestimated, or a little out of step with their world. Governesses, companions, second sons, wounded veterans, practical young women, and men trying to become better than they have been all show up again and again. Even when she uses familiar romance patterns, anonymous letters, twin switches, fake courtships, arranged marriages, she keeps the emotional stakes personal and close to the bone.
Her settings help too. Some readers come for ballrooms and country estates, but Britton is just as interested in ruined castles, seaside summers, remote villages, and dusty western ranches. Whether she is writing Letters for Phoebe, A Haunting at Havenwood, or one of the Clairvoir Castle books, there is usually a strong sense of place without a lot of fuss.
These days she lives in Oklahoma with her husband and four children. She has also shared that home life includes very energetic pets, and that she loves researching, hiking, and eating too much chocolate.
That mix of discipline, warmth, and clear affection for romance is all over her work. Her books are full of feeling, but they stay grounded. That is a big part of why readers keep moving from one series to the next.
