Clairvoir Castle Romances Books in Order

The Clairvoir Castle Romances are built around one very good idea, if you are going to set a Regency romance somewhere memorable, it may as well be a castle full of gardens, hidden corners, guests, family obligations, and just enough privacy for feelings to become inconvenient. Clairvoir is the sort of setting that naturally creates encounters, misunderstandings, and house-party energy, and Sally Britton uses it well.

The series begins, in story terms, with A Duchess for the Duke, a prequel novella that shows how the Duke and Duchess of Montfort came together and established the household that later books will orbit. After that, the focus widens to the people around them, a governess, a companion, visiting gentlemen, daughters of the house, family friends, and guests who arrive expecting a pleasant stay and leave with much more complicated hearts.

That household feeling is the key.

In Mr. Gardiner and the Governess, the romance grows between Alice Sharpe, the new governess, and Rupert Gardiner, an earnest gentleman working on a botanical record of the estate. A Companion for the Count gives Emma Arlen the awkward task of distracting a Sicilian ambassador from her mistress, only for her own feelings to get involved. Sir Andrew and the Authoress adds secret writing and family expectations. Lord Farleigh and Miss Frost turns the castle into a Christmas setting. Later books like Lady Ivy and the Irishman and A Gentleman for Lady Juniper keep expanding the emotional map of the Montfort circle.

The recurring appeal is clear. Readers get the pleasures of standalones, each book has its own couple and conflict, while still spending time in a familiar world. The duke’s family does not disappear between books. Their friendships, hospitality, and sometimes meddling presence help knit the whole series together.

Tone matters here too. These stories are lighter on danger than some of Britton’s other work and stronger on warmth, banter, and gentle longing. That does not mean nothing is at stake. Social rank, self-doubt, hidden ambitions, and family expectations all carry weight. But the overall mood is welcoming rather than grim.

If you like castles, country-house dynamics, and connected romances where the setting feels almost like another character, this series delivers exactly that. It is an easy one to read in order, but each book can also be enjoyed on its own.
