That new beginning is important because it gives the duet a stronger emotional question than simple reunion. When violence in the mafia world pulls the past back into her present, she is not choosing between two men so much as between two versions of herself, two futures, and two definitions of freedom. The suspense stays personal.

What readers should expect, then, is a true duet. Saints lays the emotional and historical groundwork, and Sinners pays it off. The books are shorter and faster than some long romantic suspense series, but they still make room for atmosphere, betrayal, loyalty, and a hero who is dangerous in every way except in how fiercely he feels.
