Series background & context
The Rylee Adamson series is Shannon Mayer’s main urban fantasy doorway. It follows Rylee, a Tracker who finds missing children when human authorities have run out of answers. She is not polished, not patient, and not especially interested in being liked. She is very interested in bringing kids home.
That job makes her useful and dangerous.
Rylee starts the series on the FBI’s wanted list, with a werewolf named Alex in her orbit and a witch best friend who helps ground the chaos. Agent Liam O’Shea enters as an outsider to the supernatural world, which gives the early books a fun push and pull. He wants answers. Rylee wants him out of her way. Neither gets exactly what they want.
The cases begin as salvages, missing-person jobs with claws, demons, ogres, vampires, Fae, and other powers tucked behind them. But the books quickly build into something bigger. Rylee gathers a found family, and every rescue comes with a new enemy, debt, or revelation about the world she thought she understood.
Mayer keeps the tone fast and direct. There is banter, grief, romance, messy loyalty, and a lot of running headfirst into impossible odds. The supernatural politics widen across the series, but the emotional center stays simple: Rylee will burn down the road in front of her if someone she loves is on the other side.
Read the prequels if you want the full shape of her early career, then start the main run with Priceless. The books do connect with the Elemental world, but Rylee’s arc can still be read as its own hard-charging urban fantasy story.
