The Roses Red books are darker fae fantasy, built around bargains, curses, and the terrible idea of trusting a beautiful creature who promises exactly what you most want. The series follows Arden Archer, a girl cursed with the ability to see the Unseelie fae, which sounds useful until you realize that gift has been ruining the women in her family for generations.

Her way into the larger story is brutal and simple. To save her younger sister, Arden agrees to become a Tithe, stepping into a deadly fae ritual where cursed humans compete for survival and the fae get exactly what they came for. That setup gives the series its shape. From there, the books widen into court politics, competing loyalties, and questions about what Arden is becoming as much as what she wants.

The romance side is messy on purpose. Mavek, the dark prince who draws Arden in, is not a safe or easy choice, and neither are the bargains that surround him. Then there is Eskel, who brings a different kind of pull into the story. Feener uses those relationships to keep the emotional center unstable in a good way. Nobody gets to stay simple for long.

The tone sits between fairy tale and dark YA fantasy. There are balls, courts, and dangerous promises, but there is also grief, retaliation, and the sense that every victory costs something. By the time the series reaches Accord, Arden is no longer just trying to survive the fae. She is part of their world whether she wanted that or not.
