Author bio
Roseanna White grew up in the mountains of West Virginia, and that sense of place, history, and rootedness still seems to follow her work. She later studied at St. John's College in Annapolis, where a Great Books education taught her to ask harder questions, chase ideas all the way through, and look for the human heart inside big historical moments.
She started young.
As a teenager, on Good Friday, she imagined a woman in the crowd at Jesus' trial. That spark became A Stray Drop of Blood, the novel she spent years shaping from an early short story into a full book. It is a pretty good clue to the kind of writer she would become. She is drawn to history, yes, but even more to the people caught inside it, especially the ones living through fear, upheaval, faith, and impossible choices.
That mix shows up all across her bibliography. Many readers first meet her through historical romance, but even that label only gets you part of the way there. Her books move from Revolutionary America to Edwardian England, from World War I code rooms to World War II Paris, from biblical courts and crowded Roman streets to the windswept Outer Banks. Again and again, she returns to hidden identities, family secrets, espionage, and the cost of loyalty.
If you pick up The Lost Heiress, you get aristocratic drama, mystery, and a heroine trying to understand where she belongs. A Name Unknown brings in spies, a found family of former street kids, and the early years of the Great War. The Number of Love turns codebreaking and wartime intelligence into something tense, smart, and deeply personal. The Nature of a Lady lets her lighten the tone without losing depth, blending island adventure, natural history, and a centuries-old treasure hunt. And The Collector of Burned Books shows just how naturally she can carry those same interests into darker, more dangerous material.
Spies have a way of finding her pages.
What readers tend to like most is not just the research, though there is clearly a lot of it. It is the way she makes that research feel lived in. Her heroines are often capable women working around the limits of their time. Her heroes are usually carrying wounds of some kind, sometimes physical, sometimes private. Her stories care about faith, but they are also interested in grief, shame, forgiveness, courage, and the long work of healing.
She also does not stay in one lane for long. Alongside her historical novels, White has written biblical fiction, contemporary stories with historical threads, and the Awakened books, which carry her love of danger, longing, and spiritual questions into romantic fantasy. Even when the setting changes completely, her readers still recognize the same concerns underneath: truth, mercy, belonging, and what people do when the world asks more of them than they think they can give.
Today she still lives in the mountains of West Virginia with her family. She writes fiction, designs book covers, and keeps up a long-running blog and podcast about faith, history, words, and ordinary life. She has also launched two homeschool grads into the world, which feels entirely in character for a writer whose stories care so much about growth, vocation, and what comes next.
By her own description, her real life is much quieter than her fiction.
