Rookie Rebels Books in Order

Rookie Rebels takes place in the Chicago Rebels hockey world a few years after the original Chicago Rebels books. The franchise is still the center of gravity, but the spotlight moves to a new wave of players and people around the team. Some of these men are true rookies. Some are only rookies in the sense that life, injury, military service, grief, or public scandal knocked them off course and forced them to start over. That makes the series feel less like a victory lap and more like a second act.

They can skate. Their personal lives, not so much.

Each book follows a different couple, but the players remain tied together through the locker room, the training facility, the front office, and a very active group of friends and partners. The series starts with Good Guy, where former Special Forces veteran Levi Hunt meets his match in reporter Jordan Cooke. From there you get neighbors with secrets in Instacrush, grief and mistaken connection in Man Down, coaching lessons gone sideways in Foreplayer, an accidental roommate story in Dear Roomie, a holiday thaw in Rebel Yule, fake dating trouble in Jock Wanted, and more. The books move easily between comedy, heat, and heavier emotional baggage.

Chicago matters here just as much as hockey. Meader uses the city, the team culture, and the public nature of professional sports to keep pressure on everyone. Careers can turn on an injury, a rumor, a bad headline, or one terrible choice. At the same time, the series has a surprisingly domestic side. Dogs appear. Families expand. Teammates meddle. People who look impossible from the outside turn out to be quietly desperate for steadiness.

One of the nice things about Rookie Rebels is how open it feels. It includes both MF and MM romances, and it connects naturally to Meader's firefighter books, especially when Down in Flames crosses the hockey world with the Engine 6 world. You never get the sense that the universe is straining to be shared. It just feels like a busy Chicago where athletes, firefighters, reporters, assistants, and relatives all keep bumping into one another.

By the time you reach Holly Jolly Rebel, the series has done more than deliver a stack of standalones. It has built a full team and a full social circle, then quietly handed the puck to the next generation. That makes Rookie Rebels a satisfying middle series in Meader's larger hockey world: lively, sexy, wounded in places, and very good at turning fresh starts into happily-ever-afters.
