Series background & context

The Robyn Hoodlum books are middle grade adventures that remix Robin Hood into a futuristic, kid-centered rebellion story. The series begins with Shadows of Sherwood, where twelve-year-old Robyn Loxley loses almost everything in a single night. Her parents disappear, her home city falls under the grip of the harsh governor Ignomus Crown, and survival suddenly means running, hiding, and learning fast.

Robyn does not stay alone for long. She falls in with a band of misfit kids, each with a knack for mischief, strategy, or slipping through tight spots. That found-family energy is a big part of the appeal. These books have gadgets, chases, disguises, and break-ins, but they also care about trust, loyalty, and what it means to build a team when none of you chose the danger in front of you.

It moves like an action series, but the heart of it is loyalty.

Across Shadows of Sherwood, Rebellion of Thieves, and Reign of Outlaws, Robyn is pulled between two linked goals: finding her parents and helping push back against Crown's rule. Each book raises the scale. What begins as escape turns into rescue. Rescue turns into organized resistance. By the final book, Robyn is not only fighting for the people she loves, she is carrying the weight of a wider rebellion.

Nott City matters as more than a backdrop. It feels like a place shaped by surveillance, inequality, and power concentrated in the wrong hands. That gives the Robin Hood echoes a modern edge. Stealing, sneaking, and breaking rules are not treated like jokes here, they are part of a larger fight over who gets to be safe, heard, and free.

The tone stays accessible for younger readers, but the stakes are real. Expect fast chapters, cliffhangers, a memorable crew, and a heroine who keeps growing into her role. This is a series best read in order, because each book builds directly on the last one and Robyn's choices keep carrying forward.
