Series background & context
Rob & Sabrina follows a schoolteacher whose admiration for a rock singer turns into a relationship with consequences outside the concert venue. Selena Kitt begins with a fan’s seemingly improbable opportunity and then follows the practical difficulties of continuing it. Sabrina Taylor has a working life far removed from the routines of a touring band. Rob Burns lives in that public world, with its travel, attention and unfinished personal business. Their different circumstances make the movement from fantasy to partnership the series’ main source of tension.
In Here Comes Trouble, Sabrina and her best friend Katie have concert plans that go wrong before the performance even begins. Running late leads Sabrina into a collision with Rob, her favorite singer. The accident produces an invitation backstage and the possibility of spending more time with him. For an elementary school teacher from the Midwest, the encounter seems to belong to a life very different from her own. The opening lets the reader experience that possibility through Sabrina’s surprise and uncertainty about whether to follow it.
The invitation is a beginning, rather than a solution to everything that follows.
Asking for Trouble takes the romance into a less spontaneous phase. Sabrina has a school year to finish and a second-grade class to teach while Rob’s band continues touring. Distance becomes part of their everyday relationship. Rob also has a messy divorce, and Katie’s experience with the band introduces concerns Sabrina cannot simply dismiss. Loving him means deciding how much of his life she can join and how much of her own life she is prepared to rearrange. The second book carries the central pairing forward instead of replacing it with another couple.
The touring setting provides more than a glamorous backdrop. Travel separates the partners and creates opportunities to reconnect on terms that are rarely entirely their own. Sabrina’s work offers a different kind of responsibility, tied to a place and a calendar rather than a sequence of performances. Those differences keep the romantic premise grounded in questions about time, trust and commitment. The series includes explicit adult material and emotional conflict, with a fan’s excitement gradually sharing space with the complications of knowing the person behind the stage presence.
Read Here Comes Trouble, Asking for Trouble and Double Trouble in that order, since the books develop Rob and Sabrina’s ongoing story. Earlier editions appeared under Kitt’s Emme Rollins pen name, beginning with Meeting Trouble. Katie’s connection with guitarist Tyler also leads into a related set of books, giving the same musical circle another couple’s perspective without changing the central focus of Rob and Sabrina’s sequence.
