Because it grows out of the Imperium Descent world, readers familiar with that setting will likely enjoy seeing another part of it lit up. But the appeal is broader than continuity. So if the main Imperium Descent books are about the cracking center of power, Rim of Chaos is about the dangerous edges where people survive without much illusion that order is coming to save them. It is a good place to go if you liked the universe and wanted to see how it behaves when the uniforms are fewer and the rules are mostly for sale.
