Author bio
Regina Scott grew up in the Seattle area and started writing novels in the third grade. She kept at it long enough to learn plot, structure, and patience, then published her first Regency romance, The Unflappable Miss Fairchild, in 1998.
History clearly followed her home.
She studied at the University of Washington, and her love of the past shows up all through her fiction. She has said that research is part of the fun, and over the years she has learned to fence, driven four-in-hand, dressed as a Regency dandy, and sailed on a tall ship so the details on the page feel real.
So do the stories.
Some readers know her best for classic Regencies, the kind with sharp dialogue, big feelings, and a lot of social pressure humming in the background. Series like Uncommon Courtships, The Lady Emily Capers, and Fortune's Brides show how much she enjoys throwing practical heroines, distracted gentlemen, and complicated households together and seeing what happens.
She has also ranged well beyond drawing rooms. Scott writes western and frontier romances set in the Pacific Northwest, including books like The Bride Ship and Would-Be Wilderness Wife, where families are built as much through grit and weather as through courtship. She is especially good at using place, whether that means a windswept coast, a frontier settlement, or a house full of people with too many opinions.
In 2011, she moved into Christian historical romance with The Irresistible Earl. Later books such as The Heiress's Homecoming and Would-Be Wilderness Wife won RT Book Reviews Reviewer's Choice awards, and A Distance Too Grand became one of Booklist’s top romances of 2019. Those milestones fit her work well. She tends to pair adventure with warmth, and faith with very human worries about money, family, duty, and second chances.
Another thing readers often notice is the kind of characters she returns to. Her heroines are usually capable women who want meaningful work, a measure of freedom, or simply the right to choose their own future. Her heroes may be earls, spies, soldiers, scientists, ranchers, or awkward good men trying to do better, but they nearly always have to learn how to listen and trust.
She has written often about the Pacific Northwest and has said she grew up there, later moving to eastern Washington to marry and raise her two sons. She and her husband now live in Washington State in the Puget Sound area, with Mount Rainier still part of the landscape.
That seems fitting for a writer so drawn to history, home, and big landscapes, emotional and otherwise.
