Series background & context
Regency Rakes is a short Wendy Vella historical romance series built around forced proximity, damaged trust, and men who are not nearly as in control as they think. The books are standalone romances, but they share the same lively Regency world of sharp attraction, family pressure, and danger that interrupts even the best social plans.
The first book, Duchess By Chance, begins with a shock. Daniel, the new Duke of Stratton, learns he has a fiancée he has never met because of his late father’s desperate dealings. Eva Winchcomb discovers she is to marry him on the way to the church. It is a marriage neither planned, and that is exactly where the trouble starts.
The series continues with Rescued By A Viscount, where Claire Belmont’s orderly life is upended by a secret connected to her dead brother. The one man most likely to disrupt her control, Viscount Kelkirk, becomes the man she must turn to. Tempting Miss Allender then moves into second-chance territory, with Patience Allender returning to society and facing the man who once humiliated her.
These books are less about a single ongoing mystery and more about romantic pressure points. A forced marriage, an unwanted helper, a painful reunion, Vella uses each setup to trap two guarded people together until honesty becomes harder to dodge.
Expect rakes, stubborn women, bruised pride, and a mix of heat and danger. Since there are only three books, reading in order is easy and gives you the best sense of how Vella connects her families and side characters across her Regency world.
