Then I Wanted It to be Us adds a different kind of tension with a younger, inexperienced heroine and Jack O'Sullivan, the older owner of O'Sullivan's Irish Pub. A photography job turns into a close look at a man who is far more intense than she expected, and the age gap gives the romance a more tentative, hesitant energy without losing the warmth of the broader series.

What holds Rebel Rendezvous together is its setting and its emotional scale. Rebel is small enough that family, work, and romance keep overlapping. The important places are personal ones, a restaurant on the verge, a lively bar, a local pub, small businesses where characters see each other constantly and cannot hide for long. That makes the series feel grounded even when the premises get messy.

The tone is warm, sexy, and a little more tender than some of Piper James's splashier setups. There is still plenty of banter, but these books spend a lot of time on yearning, nerves, and the fear of getting it wrong when something finally starts to matter. If you like small-town romances where people have history, the friend group keeps expanding, and the heart of the story is whether two stubborn people can stop dancing around the obvious, Rebel Rendezvous is a good fit.
