With the novel-in-verse Doe, Barrow moves into supernatural horror again, pairing a cheerleading rivalry with an ancient, deer-shaped creature and a bargain that turns dangerous. Whatever the setting, she returns to girls fighting to define themselves on their own terms.

Barrow continues to make her home in England. Her books range from contemporary realism to mystery, thriller, and horror, but they share a close interest in friendship, desire, power, and the way a young person can remake a life that once seemed fixed.
