Author bio
Rachael Bloome writes the kind of romance that feels warm, hopeful, and rooted in place. She grew up in the foothills of Northern California, and she has said the small towns around Mariposa helped shape the communities readers now meet in her fiction. That sense of closeness, the idea that neighbors notice when you're hurting and show up anyway, runs through almost everything she writes.
Her path to publishing started with one Christmas book idea. Bloome has said she always loved reading and storytelling, but it was the challenge of writing that first novel that truly lit the spark. The result was The Clause in Christmas, released in 2019, and what began as a single holiday romance quickly grew into the larger world of Poppy Creek.
That first story opened the door to a whole fictional neighborhood.
From there came books like The Truth in Tiramisu, The Secret in Sandcastles, and The Meaning in Mistletoe, each following different characters while returning to the same circle of friends, family members, shop owners, and town events. Readers who click with Bloome's work usually mention the same things: cozy settings, clean romance, emotional stakes, and the comforting feeling that the people on the page actually know one another.
Her books are clean, closed-door romances, but they are not weightless. Again and again, she writes about second chances, found family, forgiveness, and the slow work of healing. She has also spoken openly about how her faith shapes her stories. Even when the books are light on the surface, there is usually something deeper underneath, whether that is grief, shame, loneliness, or the hard task of starting over.
She likes love stories, but she also likes redemption stories.
That shows up clearly in later Poppy Creek books such as The Faith in Flowers, The Whisper in Wind, The Hope in Hot Chocolate, and The Promise in Poppies, where romance shares space with family complications and fresh starts. It carries into the Blessings Bay novels too. Blessings on State Street, The Unexpected Inn, The Unbound Bookshop, and The Uncomplicated Café move the action to the Northern California coast, but keep the same mix of warmth, heartache, and people learning where they belong.
She has also written the standalone New York, New Year, New You, which trades the small-town backdrop for city energy and a reinvention story, while still keeping her trademark kindness and humor. Off the page, Bloome describes herself as a hopeful romantic, booklover, coffee fan, and big believer in adventure. She helps run her family's coffee roasting business, is married to her best friend, and writes while juggling family life with two young children and dogs named Finley and Monkey.
In other words, her fiction comes from someone who likes cozy details, big feelings, and the promise that hard seasons do not have to be the end of the story. That is a big reason her books keep returning to hope, one town, one couple, and one second chance at a time.
