Series background & context

Blessings Bay takes Rachael Bloome's love of close-knit communities and moves it to the rugged Northern California coast. The result is still warm and romantic, but the feeling is a little saltier, windier, and more bittersweet. This is a seaside town of waterfront homes, old businesses, boardwalk charm, and hard-won fresh starts, where grief and hope tend to arrive together.

The series opens with Blessings on State Street, which introduces grieving widow Abigail Preston and former Air Force pilot Logan Matthews. They end up sharing the same house in town during Christmas, both carrying enough hurt to want nothing to do with holiday cheer. That first book sets the emotional tone for the series. Blessings Bay is full of charm, but the people who land there are often bruised, guarded, and trying to figure out what comes next.

As the series goes on, Abigail's story keeps moving in the background, which is one reason these books reward reading in order. In The Unexpected Inn, her life expands in ways she never expected, even as new complications threaten the fragile stability she has built. That book also opens space for another romance, between Nadia Chopra and Evan Blake, showing how the series likes to braid one couple's story into the larger life of the town.

This series has a little more carryover than Poppy Creek.

The Unbound Bookshop keeps that pattern going. Abigail's world is shaken again, while Sage Harper gets a second-chance romance with Flynn Cahill, the ex who broke her heart, on a vintage sailboat of all places. Then The Uncomplicated Café shifts toward CeCe Dupree and Jayce Hunt, lifelong friends whose fake engagement starts feeling very real, while the ongoing town story continues to ripple outward. Inns, bookshops, candy counters, cafés, and wedding plans all become part of the same shared ecosystem, which makes Blessings Bay feel lived in rather than merely scenic.

What should you expect overall? Seaside charm, yes, but also grief, healing, new beginnings, and found family. Bloome uses the coastal setting well. The water, weather, and small businesses all shape how the stories move. People come to Blessings Bay to hide, recover, regroup, or start over, and the town quietly asks them to stay open a little longer than they intended.

If Poppy Creek feels like a mountain-town hug, Blessings Bay feels like standing on a cold beach and realizing the air is finally clearing your head. The romances are still clean and hopeful, but the emotional arcs often stretch across more than one book. Read it for the love stories, but also for the satisfaction of watching strangers become family, one tide-turn at a time.
