Series background & context

The Rabbit Factor Trilogy follows Henri Koskinen, an insurance mathematician who trusts numbers because numbers tend not to lie, flirt, threaten, or hide debts in a family business. At the start of The Rabbit Factor, Henri loses his job and inherits YouMeFun, the adventure park run by his late brother Juhani. The park is near Helsinki, and it comes with employees, attractions, paperwork, and financial trouble that does not fit neatly into a spreadsheet.

It is not an amusement park.

That distinction matters to Henri, and it also says a lot about the tone of the trilogy. These are crime novels with threats, sabotage, and murder, but they are also stories about a man trying to understand ordinary human chaos. Henri can model risk with great confidence. He is less prepared for Laura Helanto, the artist whose warm, untidy life keeps pulling him away from his safer habits.

Across the three books, the adventure park becomes both workplace and battlefield. In The Rabbit Factor, Henri has to make sense of criminal loans and dangerous collectors. In The Moose Paradox, YouMeFun is finally steadier, until a person from Henri's past appears and a shady equipment supplier blocks the park's crucial new attraction, the Moose Chute. At the same time, Henri's relationship with Laura is under real strain.

By The Beaver Theory, Henri is trying to live inside a new family shape, with Laura and her daughter, while a rival adventure park threatens YouMeFun's future. Business competition gets ugly fast. So does the body count. The fun is in watching Henri take problems that are emotional, social, and sometimes violent, and then try to solve them with reason, timing, and whatever improvised tools are close at hand.

The trilogy is best read in order. Each book has its own mystery, but Henri's slow change is the real thread: from solitary actuary to reluctant boss, partner, stepfather figure, and defender of a place he never expected to love. Expect dry humor, real suspense, oddball Finnish details, and a surprising amount of heart hiding behind the calculations.
