Series background & context

On this side of the site, Queens and Monsters is treated as one continuous saga, so you can follow the whole arc from first glance to final wedding. The throughline is simple: ruthless men at the top of criminal empires falling, hard, for women who insist on being treated as queens, not trophies.

Book one pairs Natalie, a quiet Lake Tahoe art teacher still mourning her vanished fiancé, with Kage, a Bratva enforcer who moves in next door with a secret mission. Book two throws Sloane, Natalie’s loudmouthed best friend, into the clutches of Irish mob boss Declan. Book three strands Riley, Sloane’s introverted sister, in the path of Malek, a Russian assassin nicknamed the Hangman. Book four crowns Reyna, an Italian mafia widow determined to save her niece, alongside Spider Quinn, the Irish second-in-command she is supposed to hate.

The couples move between Lake Tahoe, Boston, New York, Mexico, and remote safe houses, but the emotional geography stays the same: women learning to trust again and men who have spent their lives in blood and shadows trying, often fumblingly, to become worthy of them. Side characters from earlier series, especially the Beautifully Cruel duet, weave in and out, so the universe feels sprawling even though the focus stays tight on one couple at a time.

You can expect heavy banter, inventive profanity, unapologetic steam, and action scenes that read like an R-rated movie. The books do not shy away from violence, trauma, or morally gray choices, but they balance that with found-family warmth, gallows humor, and endings that lean into commitment rather than chaos.

If you are new to JT Geissinger, starting here gives you a good sense of what she does best: intense chemistry, big emotional swings, and antiheroes whose soft spots only show up for one person. Reading in series order lets you watch the timeline and friendships develop, but each story also works as a standalone if one trope—kidnapping road trip, forced proximity, arranged marriage—calls to you more than the others.
