Prospero's Daughter Books in Order

The Prospero’s Daughter series takes Shakespeare’s The Tempest as a starting point, then jumps forward more than four centuries into a present-day world full of hidden magic. Prospero is still alive. So is his daughter Miranda. The difference is that the old sorcerer’s family now works behind the scenes to help keep supernatural disasters from spilling into ordinary human life.

Miranda runs Prospero, Inc., the family operation. She is organized, dutiful, and used to solving problems, but she is not prepared for her father to vanish. His warning suggests that powerful enemies are after the magical staffs held by the members of the Prospero family, and Miranda has to track down siblings who have spent centuries becoming strangers to one another.

That family tension is the engine of the trilogy. Miranda wants to save her father and keep the world safe, but every sibling carries old resentments, private loyalties, and a different idea of what the family owes each other. Her allies include Mab, an airy spirit with the manner of a hard-boiled detective, and Mephistopheles, a brother whose unpredictability can be either help or hazard.

The supernatural world is crowded and complicated.

The books move through a modern landscape where demons, elves, magical societies, ancient legends, and familiar figures from myth all exist just out of public view. The first novel, Prospero Lost, is a search story and a family reunion under pressure. Prospero in Hell follows Miranda as the search leads to the Inferno, where rescuing Prospero comes with terrible risks. Prospero Regained brings the family’s divided loyalties and the larger threat to a head.

The tone is adventurous but not lightweight. There are mysteries to untangle, sharp bits of humor, romance, arguments between immortal relatives, and plenty of danger. Readers do not need to know The Tempest before starting, though recognizing the original characters adds another layer to the fun.

At heart, this is a story about a daughter trying to save her father while learning that loyalty cannot mean refusing to see the truth. Begin with Prospero Lost and read in order. Each book builds directly on the family history, discoveries, and conflicts of the one before it.
