Author bio
Paula Quinn writes romances where history is not just wallpaper. Her stories lean into Highland clans, medieval politics, and the kind of love that has to survive war, oaths, and family loyalty.
She was a kid who lived for stories. Her mother read to her and made up bedtime tales, and school stories stuck with her long after the bell rang. By eleven, she was bold enough to mail a short story to a science fiction publisher, and brave enough to keep writing after it came back rejected.
She did not take the hint.
As a teenager she met the boy who would become her husband, and romance slid into her writing the same way it slides into real life, one kiss at a time. She still loved science fiction and fantasy, but she started craving the emotional payoff, the heartbeat, the human connection.
Adult life was busy and loud. She married that first love, raised three children, and filled the house with animals, including dogs and a cockatoo named Marley. Even when she was not submitting work anywhere, she kept writing for herself, stacking manuscripts away, then pulling them out to reread or share with the people she trusted.
The push to go professional came from two places: her own stubbornness and a champion at home. When her husband urged her to try again, she listened. A call from an agent in 2005 led to her debut, Lord of Desire, and the start of a career built on historical romance with a strong sense of place.
Scotland became her obsession.
Much of her popular fiction connects through families and generations. The MacGregor saga begins with Laird of the Mist and A Highlander Never Surrenders, then widens into the court intrigue of the Children of the Mist books and the later Highland Heirs romances. She also reaches further back in time with her medieval Risande family stories, where conquest and loyalty are always in conflict.
Quinn has never stayed in one lane. Alongside the kilts and castles, she writes time-travel romances like A Promise For All Time and the Echoes in Time novels, where modern characters tumble into dangerous centuries. She has also indulged her first love, paranormal and fantasy, with dragon shifter adventures like Scorched, and fantasy romance published under the name Genevra Thorne.
Over the years her books have earned industry attention, including multiple starred reviews from Publishers Weekly, and nominations from RT in historical romance categories. Her work has also been translated into a range of languages for readers outside the English-speaking world.
She is based in New York and often talks about writing with music playing, sometimes editing as she goes, and sometimes working in the most unlikely place, the bathtub. When she finally traveled to Scotland and spent time on Skye, it deepened the sensory detail that already defined her Highlands on the page.
