Series background & context

Oyster Bay is one of Olivia Miles's signature seaside series, set in a close-knit Maine town where the harbor, the old houses, and the family history all matter as much as the romances. These books have salt air in their bones. The setting is cozy, but it is never empty decoration.

The series opens with Feels Like Home, and that title tells you a lot. A woman returns to town after her marriage falls apart and discovers that home is still complicated, still comforting, and still full of people who remember exactly who she used to be. That mix of refuge and pressure powers much of the series.

Family is the anchor here.

The early books revolve around the Harper sisters, their grandmother, and the beloved house that holds so many of their memories. As the series grows, the focus widens to include cousins, friends, and other Oyster Bay residents whose lives overlap in natural ways. There are old flames, summer reunions, holiday complications, and a steady stream of women trying to figure out whether staying, leaving, or coming back is the braver move.

The tone is warm and emotional, with a strong current of sisterhood running beneath the love stories. Even when a book centers on one couple, there is usually something larger in motion, a family shift, a home that may be lost, a relative who needs help, or a tradition that is changing.

If you like connected romances that also feel like a family saga, Oyster Bay is a strong fit. Read in order and you get the full reward: not just the love stories, but the accumulating sense of a town where everyone carries a piece of the same shared past.
