Series background & context

Oak Creek is a small-town romance series centered on the Crawford family, a group of people who are sharp in business but much less successful at love. The books take place in and around Oak Creek, where local festivals, familiar faces, family expectations, and nosy neighbors make it hard for anyone to hide from their past.

The series has an easygoing small-town setting, but the characters are not living simple lives. They are recovering from bad relationships, strained family ties, career pressure, grief, and the fear of being vulnerable again. The town creates a sense of community, while the Crawford family supplies much of the chaos.

The Nerd and the Neighbor introduces Hunter Crawford, a scientist and former astronaut who returns home after his marriage and career fall apart. He is not looking for a new attachment, especially not with Abigail, the warm, determined woman who becomes his tenant and neighbor. Abigail is trying to start over, too, and their relationship grows as both learn to trust their own judgment.

The Botanist and the Billionaire follows Hunter's sister Diana, a guarded botanist who has poured herself into her plant-focused work. Asa Wexler arrives in Oak Creek with money and confidence, neither of which wins Diana over. Their romance works because he has to learn that financial help is not the same thing as earning trust.

The later books keep the focus on people who think they can manage alone. The Midwife and the Money brings Opal and Archer together after a supposedly casual encounter refuses to stay casual. The Planner and the Player returns Fletcher Crawford and his high school love Thistle to the same town, where old hurt and unfinished business demand a second look.

Oak Creek matters because it keeps the characters connected. People run into one another at work, community events, and family gatherings. It is a place where a past mistake can follow you around, but it is also a place where support can show up when you need it.

The novels are connected standalones, with a complete romance in each one. Start with The Nerd and the Neighbor to meet the Crawfords and the town. Reading in order will give you the fullest picture of the family, the supporting cast, and the earlier couples who keep appearing when a little encouragement, or interference, is required.
