Author bio
Nick Eliopulos writes the kind of stories that feel built for kids who love quests, monsters, secret doors, and game logic. He was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, and he has said he grew up on superhero comics and nonfiction books about alien abductions, psychic phenomena, and Sasquatch. That mix, comics on one side and weird mysteries on the other, still makes a lot of sense when you look at the books he writes now.
He studied cultural studies at the University of Florida, then moved to New York to work in publishing. Before most readers knew his name as an author, he spent years as a children's book editor. He also wrote for a range of licensed properties, which gave him a close-up view of how stories for young readers are shaped, paced, and made fun to follow.
That background shows.
His fiction is clean, quick, and easy to enter, but it rarely feels thin. In The Adventurers Guild, written with Zack Loran Clark, he helps build a fantasy world of guilds, monsters, friendship, and city politics that has a strong tabletop roleplaying energy without ever getting bogged down in rules. In the official Minecraft books, especially Into the Game! and Crack in the Code!, he takes game mechanics that young readers already know and turns them into lively adventure stories with real stakes.
A lot of his work starts with a simple hook, then adds heart. Kids get pulled into Minecraft. A creepy town's urban legends turn out to be real in The Wandering Hour. A zombie attack leaves a girl dragging her little brother, now undead, across the Overworld in Minecraft: Zombies!. The setups are high concept, but the books stay grounded in friendships, awkward teamwork, school problems, and the question of how brave you can be when you are still figuring yourself out.
He also likes stories where the rules of the world matter.
That is part of why his books connect so well with readers who love games, fantasy quests, and puzzle-like plots. He has worked as a game designer too, with credits that include the video game Potionomics, and that design sense comes through in the way his stories move. Characters make plans. Worlds have systems. Danger usually comes with a problem to solve, not just a monster to outrun.
Even when he is writing in very different modes, from the spooky middle grade horror of The Doomsday Archives to the interactive fantasy of Roll for Danger: The Cursed Catacombs, there are a few things you can count on. He likes ensembles. He likes weird creatures. He likes kids who are in over their heads but not out of ideas. And he has a knack for making imagined worlds feel playful and threatening at the same time.
These days, he lives with his husband in upstate New York. He has also been described as an editor, teacher, and game designer, which fits the overall picture pretty well. Busy seems to be his natural setting, and his books tend to carry that same energy onto the page.
