The New Orleans PD label only tells part of the story. These books are really sleek romantic suspense novels built around people on the run, damaged investigators, and cases that refuse to stay contained.
One story follows Sonnie Giacano as she tries to recover the truth about a devastating night that shattered her life. The other sends British photographer Olivia FitzDurham into a dangerous chase after taking pictures she was never meant to keep. In both books, the heroes come with law-enforcement backgrounds or instincts, and both couples are forced together by danger before trust has had time to catch up.
Cameron keeps the pace brisk here. There are false identities, cross-country movement, memory gaps, and threats that feel close and personal.
If you want her suspense without the heavier small-town ensemble feel of the Bayou books, this short series is a good choice. The stories are direct, tense, and easy to jump into.
