Series background & context
New Multiverse is a label for the later phase of the Hell's Gate storyline, when the conflict across the gates has grown beyond first impressions. By this point, both sides have learned some of the other’s strengths, adjusted tactics, and started pulling additional worlds and factions into the struggle.
The tone is still military SF and campaign fantasy, but the stakes feel broader. A single battle matters, yet the bigger question is whether anyone can keep the war limited, or whether the gate network makes escalation inevitable.
Once you have multiple fronts, every mistake echoes.
If you’re starting fresh, it usually makes sense to begin with the earlier Multiverse books first. This page puts the New Multiverse titles in order, gives spoiler-light summaries, and notes what you’ll want to remember going in so you don’t get lost in the shifting alliances and expanding map.
