Series background & context

Mystere Parish: Family Inheritance returns to the same Louisiana setting as the original Mystere Parish books, but narrows the focus to one haunted estate and the three sisters tied to it. The LeBeau women grew up under the shadow of a crumbling bayou mansion, a complicated mother and rumors of a curse that has followed their family for generations.

In The Accused, former New Orleans cop Carter Trahan comes home to Mystere Parish with what sounds like an easy private security job. His task is to make sure defense attorney Alaina LeBeau stays in her childhood home for two weeks so she can meet the terms of her late mother’s will. The old mansion has not grown any friendlier in Alaina’s absence. Strange noises, threats and accidents turn the stay into a siege, and Carter quickly realizes someone or something wants Alaina gone for good.

The Betrayed shifts to contractor Zach Sargent and Danae LeBeau, the youngest sister. Zach has been hired to stabilize the same mansion, which seems determined to fight back against every repair. Danae returns to claim her share of the inheritance and to untangle questions about her family’s past. Between shadowy intruders, hints of hidden rooms and the growing feeling that the house itself is watching, they are pushed together in ways neither planned.

The final book, The Reunion, brings middle sister Joelle LeBeau and bodyguard Tyler Duhan back to the parish. Joelle has made a career for herself elsewhere, but the will demands that she spend time in the house she once fled. Tyler is there to keep her safe from whoever is stalking the LeBeau women, but he cannot entirely protect her from the emotional fallout of reuniting with sisters who have their own scars and secrets.

Across the trilogy, the mansion feels like an extra character. It is full of locked doors, creaking staircases and memories the sisters would rather avoid. Local talk of curses and ghosts might or might not be superstition, but the threats the women face are very real. Each book braids together a different romance with an ongoing mystery about what really happened in the LeBeau family and why someone is willing to kill over the estate.

Readers who like inherited houses, complicated sibling relationships and a strong dash of Gothic atmosphere will find a lot to enjoy here. You can read the Family Inheritance books on their own, but they share the same moody bayou backdrop and sense of lingering danger that runs through the main Mystere Parish series.
