Muted Hopelessness Books in Order

Muted Hopelessness starts with a brutal imbalance. Tori arrives at Blakewood State University on an athletic scholarship, poor, under-resourced, and easy for the polished crowd to dismiss. Ashton is a senior, a campus star, and a rich athlete with a clear shot at the NFL. He moves through BSU like he belongs to its upper tier. Tori arrives already marked as someone outside it.

And then things get worse, and much more intimate.

What begins in the pressure cooker of an HBCU campus turns into a years-spanning saga about bullying, class, desire, betrayal, and consequences that refuse to stay in the past. Tori is a boxer from a trailer park in South Jersey. Ashton is the blue-blood golden boy with friends, money, and status. Belvin uses that gap for more than chemistry. She makes it the source of nearly every wound in the series.

BSU matters a lot here. The school is not just a backdrop but a living social world, full of hierarchy, performance, ambition, and Black cultural pride. The athletic setting adds another layer, especially as the story moves beyond college and into careers, money, fame, and the long tail of choices made when these characters were young.

Across My Muted Love, Our Muted Recklessness, and Our Reckless Hope, the series moves between then and now. That structure gives the books their punch. You watch the beginning, the damage, and the later reckoning side by side.

This is one of Belvin's rawest relationship projects. It is angry, tender, exhausting in the right way, and deeply interested in what happens when first love comes wrapped in cruelty, shame, and years of unfinished business.
