Series background & context
Moonshadow Cove is a spin-off from the Starfall Point world, but it quickly develops its own mood. The setting is the far side of the same Michigan island, where the Seaworth women live in a secluded cottage near the water and use sea-based magic to keep the human population safe from paranormal trouble. It feels saltier, softer, and a little stranger than Starfall Point, while still keeping Harper's fondness for ghosts, family chaos, and teasing romance.
The core of the series is the Seaworth sisters. Their magic comes from the surrounding water, and their family duties are not optional. They are caretakers, protectors, and, when necessary, cleanup crew for supernatural events that other people barely understand. That responsibility gives the books a stronger family thread than some of Harper's other paranormal series.
The first book, The Wrong Witch to Hex With, pairs youngest sister Linney with Gray Brockhurst, a newcomer who inherits a ghost tour business and has to learn very fast that the island legends are not just for tourists. Hex Around and Find Out shifts to middle sister Cora, while Generation Hex pulls the larger trilogy arc into focus as the sisters fight to protect both their home and the magic tied to it.
Atmosphere matters a lot here. Moonshadow Cove is pretty, foggy, and occasionally creepy. Ghosts are real. Old enemies do not stay buried. The coastline itself feels enchanted. Harper balances that with plenty of warmth, especially in the sister dynamics. These women annoy each other, protect each other, and keep showing up when things get dangerous.
The romance works hand in hand with the ongoing magical plot. Each book gives one sister a love story, but the bigger questions are about inheritance, duty, and how much of your life you owe to a legacy you did not choose. That gives the series a slightly more emotional center than the breezy covers might suggest.
Start at the beginning. The books build toward a shared payoff, and the island lore makes much more sense when you watch it unfold in order.
