Mitchum Books in Order

The first story, Hidden, gives him the cleanest possible personal hook. His teenage cousin is kidnapped, and the search drags him out of local problem-solving and into a government conspiracy. That combination, family first, then a much bigger machine behind the crime, is basically the series in miniature. Mitchum starts from loyalty, then finds himself staring at forces that do not care about ordinary people.

Malicious keeps the pressure close to home. Mitchum's brother Nathaniel is accused of murder, and the easy version of the case does not add up. Clearing him means breaking rules, walking into ugly relationship drama, and risking damage to the people Mitchum is trying to protect. The story works because it knows family obligation is stronger than caution.

By the time you get to Malevolent, the series has gone full personal-war mode. Mitchum's loved ones are being hit one by one in carefully staged attacks, and the only way out is to hunt the person behind it before everything around him collapses. The books are short, but there is still a sense of escalation. Each story strips away a little more safety and asks how much Mitchum is willing to wreck in order to stop the next blow.

These are punchy thrillers, not leisurely mysteries. The appeal is the directness. Mitchum is physical, stubborn, and emotional in a way that keeps the books from feeling too slick. He is not solving elegant puzzles for fun. He is trying to save people he loves, usually while discovering that the official story is useless or false.

Read them in order if you can, Hidden, Malicious, then Malevolent. The plots are easy to follow on their own, but the series works best when you watch the pressure build. If you want James Patterson and James O. Born in their shortest, most hard-charging mode, Mitchum is a very easy recommendation.
