Series background & context

Minor League Mayhem keeps its eye on hockey players who are talented, reckless, and not nearly as grown-up as they think they are. The books are set around the Irvine Mayhem, the minor league affiliate of the Newport Beach Seagulls, which gives the whole series a strong connected-world feel.

That setup matters.

These are not polished superstars at the top of the sport. They are younger players, still building careers, still making dumb choices, and still learning that one bad night can wreck a lot more than a stat line. Heather C Myers uses that stage well. Reputation problems, family baggage, fake relationships, old crushes, and marriages that never really got a fair start all fit naturally here.

Each book centers a different couple, so the romances work as interconnected standalones. The shared cast keeps popping up, which makes the series feel like one messy season of overlapping personal drama. Hockey is always present, but the emotional hook is what drives things from book to book.

If you like new adult sports romance with recurring characters, a sunny Southern California backdrop, and heroes who usually need to grow up before they get the girl, this series is an easy one to settle into.
