Author bio

Michele Sinclair writes historical romance that likes a bit of motion. Her books are full of clan loyalties, secret plans, stubborn heroines, and men who learn that loving a strong woman is not the same thing as trying to manage her. She has said she started writing fiction soon after her second child was born, when she needed a creative outlet of her own.

That start makes sense when you look at her working life. Before fiction became part of her career, Sinclair spent more than 30 years as a consultant and also worked as a copy editor for a published journal. She was already writing all day. Romance became the place where she could follow her own ideas, and where the ending could promise some relief.

She has always described herself as a big reader. She likes books that teach her something while still telling a good story, and when she picks up romance she wants the emotional payoff of a hard won happy ending. She is also open about preferring clear, modern language in historical fiction, which helps explain why her books feel brisk and readable rather than weighed down by dialect.

She also likes series that let readers see what happens after the wedding.

That instinct shows up all through the McTiernay books, the series most closely linked to her name. Beginning with The Highlander's Bride in 2007, Sinclair built a big Highland family around brothers, allies, castles, and clan disputes, then kept widening the circle with books like To Wed a Highlander, Desiring the Highlander, and later In the Arms of a Highlander. Readers who enjoy connected historical romances tend to come for exactly that mix of action, banter, and family interference.

She has also branched out. The Christmas Knight gives her medieval romance a holiday setting, while A Woman Made for Pleasure and A Woman Made For Sin shift into Regency England, following clever young women navigating London society, secrets, and love. On the paranormal side, her contribution to Highland Hunger shows the same interest in danger and desire, just with immortals and darker stakes in the mix.

Across all of it, her women are feisty on purpose.

Sinclair has written that she likes heroines with backbone and heroes who like them that way. She also enjoys bringing friends and relatives back into later books, not just for cameos but to show the rest of their story, whether they stayed happy, had children, or ended up in fresh trouble. That wish to keep a fictional community alive is a big part of her appeal.

Her work has picked up romance writing honors, including Heart of Excellence, Laurel Wreath, and HOLT Medallion recognition. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia. In updates to readers, she has also written candidly about living with stage 4 breast cancer and about getting back to work on new stories when her health allows. That straightforward voice, practical, warm, and a little funny, sounds a lot like the books themselves.
