The Michael Collins series follows a lawyer who has made a dramatic break from the life he once wanted. That push and pull gives the series its shape. Michael is smart, funny, and often reluctant to behave like a responsible professional, yet he keeps getting drawn toward people who need help. His closest ally is Kermit Guillardo, an unconventional former code breaker with a gift for numbers and a very different approach to daily life. Their friendship brings some comic energy to stories that also involve fraud, murder, federal pressure, and real legal risk.

The setting shifts as the series goes on. Mexico and the Sunset Resort and Hostel represent the freedom Michael thinks he has found, while New York brings back the past he cannot quite outrun. In No Time To Die, a promise to a local boy leads Michael and Kermit to rural Florida, where missing workers, hostile authorities, and powerful agricultural businesses make a simple search far more dangerous. No Time To Hide brings Michael back toward New York when the death of Father Stiles, the priest who helped raise him, forces him to face both grief and the unresolved case against him.

Each book has a legal-thriller engine, but the series is also interested in why someone walks away from a successful life and what it takes to stop running. Michael is capable in court and crafty under pressure, though he is not a polished hero who always has a plan. He makes mistakes. He avoids hard conversations. He also shows up when the stakes become personal.
