Series background & context

Natasha Boyd's Mediterranean series is her escape-to-France mode, but it is not just sunshine and postcards. These books are contemporary romances set around the south of France, luxury yachts, and beautiful coastal towns, and they mix the fantasy of a glamorous getaway with characters who are carrying real hurt.

The first book, Broken French, starts with Josephine, or Josie, after a professional blow-up sends her looking for a reset. She takes a nanny job aboard a mega yacht in the south of France and walks straight into the orbit of Xavier Pascale, a widowed billionaire who is devoted to his daughter Dauphine and not especially open to emotional surprises. That setup gives the series its basic shape: a gorgeous setting, very close quarters, and people who are much more vulnerable than they first appear.

The sea helps, but it doesn't solve anything.

Boyd makes good use of the Mediterranean backdrop. The yachts, villages, markets, and blue water give the books a dreamy surface, yet the real engine is intimacy under pressure. Characters cannot easily disappear from one another, and that matters. Josie is trying to figure out what comes next after disappointment. Xavier is protective, shut down, and used to control. Their story is about attraction, yes, but also about grief, parenting, and whether a life that looks perfect from the outside is actually livable from the inside.

Stolen English keeps the same world but shifts the lens to Andrea and Evan Roark, the head of security. Their story runs close to the later events of Broken French, so the series feels connected rather than merely neighboring. Andrea has spent years surviving an abusive past and living in a protected kind of hiding. Evan has been close by the whole time, acting as guardian, wall, and temptation all at once. That makes the second book less about fantasy and more about healing, safety, and what it takes to want a future again.

This is probably the key thing to know about the Mediterranean books. The glamour is real, but the emotional stakes are not lightweight. Boyd is interested in recovery, trust, and the way travel can shake people loose from the story they have been telling themselves about who they are. The men can be wealthy, guarded, and very protective. The women are usually at a turning point, trying to claim more space in their own lives.

If you want romance that gives you both an armchair vacation and a solid emotional core, this series is an easy fit. Start with Broken French for the yacht, the French Riviera mood, and Xavier's closed-off world. Then move to Stolen English if you want the deeper, more healing-centered companion story that grows out of the same Mediterranean circle.
