Series background & context

Natasha Boyd's Butler Cove books are contemporary romances set in a fictional South Carolina Lowcountry town where salt air, old houses, and small-town memory matter almost as much as the love stories. The series opens with Eversea, when movie star Jack Eversea lands in Butler Cove trying to get away from scandal and cameras, and meets Keri Ann Butler, a local woman who has spent years putting duty ahead of herself.

That contrast powers a lot of the series. Jack lives in a world of handlers, paparazzi, and public damage control. Keri Ann lives in a world of family history, community expectations, and the daily work of holding life together. Boyd gets a lot of mileage out of that collision. The books ask what happens when intense attraction shows up between two people whose lives run on completely different tracks, and whether love can survive once the real world pushes back.

Place matters here.

Butler Cove is not just a pretty backdrop. The town has beaches, marshes, porch-weather charm, and the close-knit feel that makes privacy both comforting and impossible. The Butler family home, the rhythms of coastal South Carolina, and the town's long memory all help shape the series. Even when one character comes from a very public life, the emotional center stays grounded in this smaller world, where everyone knows everyone and feelings do not stay hidden for long.

As the series goes on, Boyd widens the focus. Forever, Jack and My Star, My Love keep building on Jack and Keri Ann's relationship, while All That Jazz shifts attention to Jazz Fraser and Joey Butler. That gives the series a nice sense of depth. The supporting characters are not just scenery, they have their own baggage, history, and unfinished business. By the time later books return to Jack and Keri Ann, Butler Cove feels like a fully lived-in place rather than a one-book setting.

The tone sits somewhere between swoony celebrity romance and grounded small-town drama. There is plenty of chemistry, but the books also lean into loyalty, self-worth, grief, family pressure, and the question of how much of yourself you can give away before you disappear. Fame is a big part of the conflict in Jack and Keri Ann's story, but it is not the only one. These are books about growing up, making choices, and learning how to be loved without losing your footing.

If you like connected romances with a strong sense of place, recurring characters, and an emotional through-line, this is the appeal of Butler Cove. Start with Eversea for the main spark between Jack and Keri Ann, then keep going if you want the wider circle, the holiday bridge in My Star, My Love, and the later payoff in Beach Wedding. The setting stays dreamy, but the feelings get messy in a good way.
